Where does Yobana Studios stand with the U.S. election?
“Corázon Partido”
Out of a broken heart, sometimes something sweet comes out. This design will be launched as a sticker very soon.
It’s been an especially challenging couple of weeks, a time filled with a whirlwind of emotions, each moment heavier than the last. I’ve felt the weight of grief deeply, and though it has been an emotional rollercoaster, I am slowly but surely starting to rise again. The road ahead is long, but I am determined, because as U.S. citizens, we have a monumental amount of work ahead of us. We must come together, work through our differences, and fight for a better future for everyone.
Hi there! I’m Yobana, the proud owner and creative spirit behind Yobana Studios. In addition to being a small business owner, I am also a cis-gender Mexican mom, a loving wife, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and a sexual assault survivor. My journey has been anything but easy. During my second pregnancy, I faced an incredibly difficult and life-threatening situation that led to a crucial D&C (dilation and curettage) procedure, one that was necessary not only for my health but to save my life. This experience, though incredibly painful, taught me the importance of taking control of my own health and advocating for myself and others.
When it comes to this election, it has been so much more than a clash of political ideologies for me. It has struck a deeply personal chord. The fact that a convicted sexual predator was chosen over a woman speaks volumes about the state of our society, and it’s something that I truly cannot comprehend. But as disheartening as it is, sadly, I was not surprised. Throughout my life, I have been subjected to a steady stream of racist, sexist, and homophobic comments, insults, and actions, some from strangers, others from people who were once close to me. These experiences have shaped me in many ways and have only strengthened my resolve to be part of the change we desperately need.
I’ve always known that there is an overwhelming need for greater acceptance, empathy, and understanding for those who are different from ourselves. The experiences I’ve lived through have opened my eyes to the importance of creating spaces where everyone can feel seen, heard, and valued. This is why Yobana Studios will always be, without question, a progressive space where all individuals—no matter their background, identity, or experiences—are welcomed with open arms. My art will always be a reflection of my unique perspective, one that is shaped by my personal journey and my sincere hopes for a world that is more compassionate, fair, and inclusive.
At Yobana Studios, we are dedicated to uplifting the voices of those who have been marginalized, ignored, or dismissed. It is a space where empowerment thrives, where the unheard find a platform, and where the message of love, acceptance, and progress echoes through every brushstroke of my Apple Pencil. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to embrace their own stories, to stand firm in the face of adversity, and to believe that a better, more just and equitable world is not only possible—it is essential.
